History

The 1st IFF “Bastau” was held in 2011; however this festival is already more than thirty years old! It was started as a festival of debut films in the Soviet years in 1982. A lot of talented young people have become laureates of this festival.

The resumption of the festival has become a way of integrating not only the film schools of the Eurasian region, but also the world’s leading film schools.

The International Student Film Festival “Bastau” is held for the purpose of cooperation and cultural exchange between young filmmakers from around the world.

The main purpose of the festival is to develop the general professional level of the participants, support and promote their work, increase interest in creating films of various genres. It is the “Bastau” film festival that provides young directors and screenwriters with a unique platform for implementing their own projects.

The main difference of the festival: the spirit of freedom, where the main rhythm is set by the young generation itself. That is why, along with the main jury, there is also an international student jury.

In addition to official competition screenings, it is planned to hold master classes from distinguished filmmakers and producers, as well as retrospectives of world cinema masters in the framework of the film festival at the Kazakh National Academy of Arts named after T. Zhurgenov.

The primary aim of the class masters is that the leading masters of the film industry can transfer their knowledge and experience in a short time.
